How long does it take to train an aggressive or reactive dog?

My behavior program typically runs four weeks of one-on-one, hour-long sessions. Many families notice a real change within the first two weeks, and most dogs graduate at four.

That said, the four weeks are the start. They teach your dog new habits and teach you how to keep them going. Most of the practice happens at home between sessions, so what you put in during the week matters as much as what happens when I am there.

Some dogs move faster, some need longer. A dog with some training already may finish sooner. A very fearful dog, a dog with a long history, or a home with several dogs may need more time. I’ll tell you at the evaluation what I realistically expect for your dog.

Keeping it is the real goal. That is why every program includes lifetime support and lifetime access to my Saturday group classes. Once your dog has been reliable for a while, we wean off the e-collar.

Health matters too. If your dog may have a medical issue, we talk about it first. For a few very anxious dogs, I have suggested that owners ask their vet whether medication could help alongside training.

The quickest way to know what to expect is a free in-home evaluation.
